- NO. When Transferring any data from the net you will have varying
- rates of transfer. My advice is to DIRECTLY call a freinds modem (who
- has the same or similar modem) and see what happens. If you have
- problems with that, then you have a problem in your setup. If you get
- good transfer rates with a direct modem to modem connection your setup
- is fine. Next call and find out the specs on the hardware your ISP
- uses. If your ISP has an FTP site, download something from there to
- check your xfer rates from them. If all is doing well in this
- situation, then your problem with downloading from the net is the same
- problem that the rest of us have which is what I like to call netgoo.
- This is simply an abundance of people making downloads and slowing
- down the site from which you are trying to download. Your only
- recourse in this situation is to find another site which doesn't have
- as many users. I generally test a few sites for speed by downloading
- small files from them and then choosing the ones that have the
- quickest download b4 I do a large transfer.
-
- Just remember the more people that are downloading from any particular
- site, the slower your xfer rate is going to be.
-
- Good luck.
